Life tends to run away from me, and now that it’s been just over 6 months, I am going to recommit to posting. I’m not saying that I’ll be perfect, but I’m going to try. This goes for all the platforms I’ve been trying to remember to use. But for now, here’s an update on all the endeavors I’ve pursued.
School Last Fall
In the fall I lost track of time and space. I was trying to focus on school, but also got really distracted from time to time. There wasn’t anything too special, but there are lots of memories and experiences I did have that I wouldn’t change for anything.
I made lots of new friends, people that I still talk to now even as I’m the ocean and 7 hours ahead of them.
I also had lots of fun times in school or within school sanctioned events such as the English Club. I still join them while I’m here from time to time if I’m not too tired to join at 11:30 pm.
Moving Abroad
The biggest thing that I’ve done recently is moving abroad. About 10 months ago I applied for a study abroad program through my school, and about 4 months ago I finally heard back. It was a crazy process figuring everything out, packing everything I need in as little space and weight as possible, and getting over her.
Now I’ve been living in the UK for about 2 months, and it’s brought lots of new adventures.
From the train being canceled the first time I was going to take one, to getting 30,000 steps multiple days in a row, I’ve had so many experiences. I’ve been to 4 castles, 4 new countries, and 2 new continents in the last 2 months alone, and it’s still hard to wrap my head around it.
Where I’ve Been
Since coming to the UK, I have been to (in order):
- Plymouth, England (Where I’m at school)
- Cornwall, England
- St. Ives
- Looe
- Bath, England
- Cardiff, Wales
- Gibraltar – British Overseas Territory
- Algeciras, Spain
- Ronda, Spain
- Chefchaouen, Morocco (Yes, Africa)
- Malaga, Spain
And no, the fact that I have been to Africa before London is not lost on me. It’s actually rather funny it happened that way.
School Now
Now I’m studying in England. And it’s a bit different.
I only have 3 classes over here, but they will come back as 15 to the US. I’m not sure how they will all fit, but they will somehow.
The amount of work I have is about the same, but with way less papers to write. There are a lot of books, and as any English major can tell you, that means there is more than it is ever possible to read all the way through. But I only have 2 papers for each of my classes, so that is a bit worrisome.
The grading system is also something that I’m not sure how I feel about. Over here a 70% is considered a really good grade…and that doesn’t really fly for me. So I guess we will see how this plays out for me.
My Recommitment
I am going to try to post as much as possible. I’ll have videos coming soon about the trips I’ve been on, and I’m going to make posts and stories about each of them as well. But from now on, I intend on doing them as they happen rather than after the fact, and almost 2 months late.
